Fae Raven

I actually can’t believe I have left it this long to share any of the images (other than our cosplay publication) I shot of Fae Raven!

This beauty & I first worked together when I was back in university, about 11 years ago. We then worked together a year later when I was putting a charity calendar together to raise money for the Sophie Lancaster foundation – Fae was my February.

Fae hadn’t shot in a while since this shoot, but you wouldn’t have thought it. She is a complete natural, and so lovely to work with!

We shot such a variety that day. Did a bit of lingerie with natural light, shot some latex by Shhh Couture, they even made us a lovely green bikini shoot! and did a little bit of cosplay. It was honestly such an effortless shoot, and was so lovely to work with again after all this time. I can’t wait for us to arrange something else in the future!

Sovereign in Iron

Remember the slight teasers I shared back on the 9th of January? Well, now I can finally share the images from that shoot!

They have now been published in Surreal magazine this month. I really enjoyed this shoot, as although Guilli and I were using items we had previously shot with before, we wanted to approach it differently and play with the styling.

The chainmail hood is something I acquired on Ebay, it’s one of my favourite purchases and I don’t think I will ever tire of using it in shoots. The scalemaile was from the lovely It Is Known, and I love incorporating her beautiful pieces into my shoots where I can.

The armour chestplate was something Guilli had made for part of a costume, but we felt it would work really well for what we were planning. We styled it differently for 2 seperate looks, and I can’t decide what look I like the most!

I have some sneak previews of my shoot with Lauren C a couple of weeks ago still to share, and we have a couple of magazines publishing us as well which is great. I finished editing my images of Constance Peach from our shoot a couple of weeks ago too, so have an update still to do on those. I also had another great shoot with the lovely Polly Anther. We managed an epic 6 looks, all very different, utilising not just my home studio but also areas of my house. I can’t wait to share those, so keep checking back for a bit of a peek!

I am shooting again this weekend, so I’m very busy at the moment.

Hello 2022!

Hello 2022!

Well here we are, another New Year! I hope everyone had a good Christmas & New Years.

I got a bit slack with the updating towards the end of last year, lost my mojo a little bit. But I am determined to get back on track this year.

I have already this weekend done my first shoots of the year which went great, and I am really excited for what the rest of the year will hold.

Towards the end of last year Invested in a new (well. 2nd hand camera) which was just the model up from my 5D Mark II, and I really love the Mark III. I just felt after 10+ years with my Mark II, I needed to retire it slightly and keep it as a backup. I also invested in some new lighting, finally saying buy to using my speedlites paired with my Bowens Geminis, and I now have a pair of Interfit Badger Unleashed, which are an amazing piece of kit.

I am looking forward to putting them more to use throughout 2022!

Image to the right is a peek from today's shoot. It was my first shoot with a male model in a long time! Below a very sneaky peek of yesterday's shoot. I am looking at submitting these, so can't do a full reveal yet!

I am shooting again next weekend, and I still have some work from 2021 that I just never got round to sharing! So lets hope I don't slack on updating here again!

Time has flown by!

I don’t know where the last 3 or so months has gone, and I can’t believe I have left it that long to update!

I have been busy with model shoots, self shoots & I have had a couple of weddings to photograph, some freelance retouching work and we have also had a couple of little breaks away. So time has just flown by!

Since my last update, I have shot with a couple of people who I have already worked with before, plus some new ones who I have wanted to work with for years! I have created some work I am really proud of.

This year I have definitely got to do more which has been fantastic, it has been so nice being creative with others again. As well as keeping myself busy with self shoots!

I am now done with shooting for 2021, other than for my last wedding of the year this weekend. I have some bits & pieces to do around the house between now and Christmas (I can’t believe it is next month already!), but I also just want to have some downtime to get ready to have a nice chilled festive period.

I still have some new images to finish, and share once publication has happened. I got to work with the lovely Dani Devine recently, and I love what we created and can’t wait to share!

Here is a bit of what I have been up to the past 3 months with models Purple Muffinz, Psycatt & Stephanie Jay! Image Heavy!

Alongside model shoots I have been self shooting quite a bit also. I love doing this as it lets me experiment with lighting and keeps me busy & creative if I haven’t had time to book any one in.

I will try to update a bit sooner next time (although I have said that before haha)

I still have new images to share, plus I did my 10 looks for Halloween again which was a blast!

I am going to be working on a separate website as well to start hosting my wedding & family photography, as it does not really fit in with this site, so keep an eye out for that!

It is Known - Femme Rebelle Magazine

It is July, and I can finally share with the images I shot back at the end of May with the awesome Halatirno

The reason it has taken so long is because I submitted them to Femme Rebelle Magazine, as I was so proud of this shoot and what Gulli and I had created. She made the gorgeous blue dress you see, plus the grey accessories to go with it. I was kindly sent the Scalemail accessories from the talented designer It Is Known all the way from New York. She had approached me about a collaboration, and I did not even need to hesitate as her work is gorgeous. I was also sent the beautiful crown by Pretty Peculiar, which went well with the whole outfit.

Make sure to check out the full issue, but below is the tearsheets featuring our images.

I really love how these shots in the green dress & gold headpiece from Pretty Peculiar came out. These were not submitted, as they didn’t feature the scalemaile, and it was a last look we did just to end our day of shooting.

Below, you can find the rest of the images from this shoot. I shot quite a bit, and wanted to showcase Guillis blue dress as best as I could, especially as she had made it so it was customisable, and bits could be removed or moved around to style it differently.

If you look even further down, you can find a little behind the scenes video I did from the day.

Make sure to give everyone I mentioned a follow across social media 🙂

I am still here!

I am still here!

I honestly can’t believe I have left it this long since I last updated! Life has just kind of flown by in the past few months and here we are already in June!

I have been busy with both my retouching job, but also it has been so lovely being able to work with other people on shoots since restrictions were lifted! I had my first shoot of 2021 back in April with Lily Omen (pictured right), and have been trying to shoot most weekends since! I have managed to do a bit of self shooting as well on the side of that, but honestly, I haven’t really had the time or the desire to as much now I have new faces to work with.

My shoot with Lily was fantastic, and we had never worked together before which was lovely. She was wonderful to work with, and we got so much done in the time that we had which was amazing. I am really hoping our paths cross again soon! I then shot with another new face to me, also in April, by the name of Olivia, who is also a latex designer under the name Lil’ Sweetheart Shop. She is someone that is fairly local to me, and we hit it off almost immediately. We shot a few of her designs, and although she is fairly new to modelling, she was lovely to work with and settled into it really quickly.

Lastly in April, I finally got to work with the pin up beauty that is Stephanie Jay. We have had plans to work together for a while now, and did have something booked in for last year until the C word scarpered those plans. But finally managed to get something in after lockdown, and we had a great shoot, she is such a pro. I really hope we can work together again.

Then in May, I got to do 2 more shoots I have had in the works for a while. Because of no conventions, I have really missed photographing cosplayers. I only managed one cosplay shoot in 2020, and I have been desperate to do more. So when Beyond Believing approached me last year about shooting her genderbent Geralt from Witcher, I jumped at the chance! Not only is it one of my favourite games, but her cosplay is based off of the Netflix series which I absolutely love! I found the perfect location that wasn’t too far from me, and we also really lucked out with the weather day, as the weather had been awful in the run up to it. We also shot a bit of Geralt back in my studio, plus some fitness looks as Nieke is a cross fitter. We got some really fab shots that day, and I also did a behind the scenes video which you can find below.

Check out the gallery below featuring some shots from the shoots I have done these past couple of months!

Behind the scenes video with Beyond Believing Cosplay.

My last shoot for May was with Halatirno. Again, this was another that had been planned for a while, but restrictions had prevented it from happening.

I contacted Gulli when I had a designer in America sending me some gorgeous scale mail items to shoot. Last year we shot some beautiful photos with a chainmail hood, so I knew instantly she would be perfect for this. She went to amazing lengths and crafted the most stunning gown just for our shoot! Again, I managed to find the perfect location for this and we had the most amazing weather for the day too.

I am still working my way through all the images, but here is a shot taken from my computer screen, plus some behind the scenes & location shots.

I will have plenty to share once all edited, plus I did another behind the scenes video.

I will try not to leave it so long until my next update!

Birthday & Valentines Shoot

It has been a few weeks! I don’t know where the time is going. I am busy with work, have been suffering with migraines and also in the middle of more renovations, so everything is a bit hectic!

With the news we got yesterday regarding the roadmap to ending lockdown, things feel more positive and hopefully we can start to get back to normal. I have my first vaccination this week as well.

I am really excited to start being able to see people again, and get shoots booked in and work with fellow creatives! My studio is currently being redecorated, so will be all finished once restrictions start to lift. But, because it’s currently being decorated, that means I just haven’t had the time or space to shoot, as everything from the two rooms we are working on, is spread out around my house until we finish.

I did however shoot some bits before my studio was out of action. It was my birthday at the end of January, so I shot a little look for that. I also did some looks for valentines day which I really enjoyed doing!

I have had Mad Love’s Harley Quinn on my to do list for a while, and I even made her cork gun for the shoot as well, the cowl & mask I bought online. I also wanted to do a cupid look, and had purchased some cushion filling to create clouds, which I have seen people use before, but I was really amazed at how well it worked! I then photoshopped in some clouds behind me to make it really look like I was up in the skyI. I really loved how these turned out, and are probably some of my favourite self shot images so far. I also did a bodysuit look utilising the natural light that my studio gets at golden hour. I only managed to get a few as I had just finished shooting cupid, so didn’t have a lot of time before the light went.

I am hoping to be able to start shooting again next month, but I don’t want to rush getting my studio/office just how I want it, so I am going to take my time with it!

I hope everyone is keeping well, and hopefully all this soon will be a distant memory!

Teagan Paige - Second Shoot Edited!

Teagan Paige - Second Shoot Edited!

Towards the end of August I got to work with Teagan Paige for a second time before she was leaving the UK! I was so glad we got to shoot again, as we always have fun on our shoots, and end up producing some great stuff. We first worked together 8 years ago, and the images are still some of my favourites

I had been sent a couple of harness & corset sets from Basque & Glory for our shoot, and we also wanted to do something with flowers in the bathtub.

When it came to shooting the corset sets, we stayed dark with the Black set, with hints of pink from coloured gels. With the pink set we stayed bright & colourful. I did originally make a note of my light set up, but with everything going on recently with renovating, It all slipped my mind and I no longer have it saved!

For the flower set, we shot in my bathtub. I had originally wanted to shoot in a paddling pool in my garden, but the weather had typically really turned that weekend (after weeks of a heatwave) so the bath was the best option. Instead of having the white of the tub as the background, I laid down a black muslin backdrop so we got darker results. I had aiming at the white ceiling, a light, and another aiming across the bath, with a pastel turquoise gel for a slight hint of colour.

I really loved how the flower shots turned out. I have wanted to do something with water for ages, but timing, weather, amongst other things have stopped it from happening.

I hope I get to catch her again when she returns to the UK!

Here is the little behind the scenes video from this shoot!I My stand unfortunatly slipped without me realising, so excuse the slight cut off the top at the start! I have since repurchased a Canon M10, not just for having a smaller camera to carry around for trips, but also to aim to do more and better behind the scenes videos like I used to. Music is by Absent Minds.

Charlykat Shoot - Edited

Charlykat Shoot - Edited

I am a bit behind with updating, as I have a lot going on with work and renovating, but finally found sometime to post a quick update!

Last month I shot with Charlotte, who I have worked with numerous times now, she lives not far from me and I love our collaborations! This was our first shoot this year, after having to cancel out shoot back in April due to lockdown.

I love our shoots as we don’t always plan ahead, and like to come up with what we’re doing on the day, and always manage to pull off some great work.

My favourite set is probably the darker set with the black bodysuit! We jazzed this outfit up with a chain belt, and some black voile fabric and had the fan going to give some dynamic to the shots! It really worked well.

I have a couple more updates of new images to make once I am caught up with myself. I have my second shoot with Teagan Paige before she left the UK, and I also have a new self-shoot to share! I will then be making a start on my favourite time of year, which is Halloween. I am currently without a studio whilst we are renovating, but hopefully it be for much longer!

Stay well,

JL

Teagan Paige - Edited!

I have been busy the last few weekends with shoots, and it’s felt great. Today I had my last shoot until about October due to a renovation project that needs my full time and attention if I wish to have it completed. But this also gives me time to catch up on my editing work.

Today’s shoot was with Teagan Paige again, and it was her last as she is leaving the UK next week, so I was glad to fit her in again before she leaves!

Here is a little peek of what we shot today! I had Basque & Glory send me a couple of cute sets (which I will also be self shooting soon) and we also did some images in the bath with flowers.

My last shoot with Teagan Paige was great fun, and we both went into it blind as I had been let down by another model last minute, and she was on hand to help me out!

Considering we had no idea of what we were going to shoot, we managed to pull together 4 looks which I ended up loving.

My favourite from the set has got to be with the chainmail hood. I have used this a few times now for shoots, and every shoot has come out so different. I think these are probably my favourites. The colours, the styling, the poses, they just all work so well together and created some strong beauty images.

I still have my Witcher cosplay shoot to finish, and I am also waiting on Charlotte’s selections from our shoot last weekend. I definitely have a lot to keep me going for a bit. I will also have a behind the scenes video from this shoot as well!

Next weekend I have plans to self shoot, and have 4 looks I wish to do. I will be shooting the 2 Basque & Glory sets I shot this weekend, plus 2 cosplay inspired looks.

Here is the little behind the scenes video from our previous shoot! I would really like to get a proper camera to film behind the scenes again like I used too, but for now they are just filmed on my Google Pixel. Music is by Absent Minds.
