Polly Anther - New Images

Well, I left posting again slightly longer than I had planned, but at least it is in the same month this time!

I have been super busy with shoots & catching up on my editing, plus, been getting the odd migraine too.

A few weeks ago I had a brilliant shoot with Polly Anther. Neither of us have worked together before, but when Polly contacted me on Instagram about a shoot, I jumped at the chance as I loved her look.

I absolutely loved what we created, she posed flawlessly and was such a lovely person. I really look forward to working with her again.

I never got round to doing a behind the scenes video, I do plan on starting to do studio ones again, but have found it easier with shoots on location.

I have since shot with Miss Lauren C & Purple Muffinz, who I haven’t worked with since 2018! So it was lovely to see her. Both shoots I got some amazing stuff, and will do an update with those. I have also done a bit of self shooting when I have had time, but am still to edit those.

I am currently on break from shooting due to house renovations, and my studio not being accessible. But, I am looking forward to planning more shoots soon.

Keep a lookout for new images. I will soon be able to release the images from the amazing shoot I did with Halatirno at the end of May, as we will be getting published in the next week or so!

I am still here!

I am still here!

I honestly can’t believe I have left it this long since I last updated! Life has just kind of flown by in the past few months and here we are already in June!

I have been busy with both my retouching job, but also it has been so lovely being able to work with other people on shoots since restrictions were lifted! I had my first shoot of 2021 back in April with Lily Omen (pictured right), and have been trying to shoot most weekends since! I have managed to do a bit of self shooting as well on the side of that, but honestly, I haven’t really had the time or the desire to as much now I have new faces to work with.

My shoot with Lily was fantastic, and we had never worked together before which was lovely. She was wonderful to work with, and we got so much done in the time that we had which was amazing. I am really hoping our paths cross again soon! I then shot with another new face to me, also in April, by the name of Olivia, who is also a latex designer under the name Lil’ Sweetheart Shop. She is someone that is fairly local to me, and we hit it off almost immediately. We shot a few of her designs, and although she is fairly new to modelling, she was lovely to work with and settled into it really quickly.

Lastly in April, I finally got to work with the pin up beauty that is Stephanie Jay. We have had plans to work together for a while now, and did have something booked in for last year until the C word scarpered those plans. But finally managed to get something in after lockdown, and we had a great shoot, she is such a pro. I really hope we can work together again.

Then in May, I got to do 2 more shoots I have had in the works for a while. Because of no conventions, I have really missed photographing cosplayers. I only managed one cosplay shoot in 2020, and I have been desperate to do more. So when Beyond Believing approached me last year about shooting her genderbent Geralt from Witcher, I jumped at the chance! Not only is it one of my favourite games, but her cosplay is based off of the Netflix series which I absolutely love! I found the perfect location that wasn’t too far from me, and we also really lucked out with the weather day, as the weather had been awful in the run up to it. We also shot a bit of Geralt back in my studio, plus some fitness looks as Nieke is a cross fitter. We got some really fab shots that day, and I also did a behind the scenes video which you can find below.

Check out the gallery below featuring some shots from the shoots I have done these past couple of months!

Behind the scenes video with Beyond Believing Cosplay.

My last shoot for May was with Halatirno. Again, this was another that had been planned for a while, but restrictions had prevented it from happening.

I contacted Gulli when I had a designer in America sending me some gorgeous scale mail items to shoot. Last year we shot some beautiful photos with a chainmail hood, so I knew instantly she would be perfect for this. She went to amazing lengths and crafted the most stunning gown just for our shoot! Again, I managed to find the perfect location for this and we had the most amazing weather for the day too.

I am still working my way through all the images, but here is a shot taken from my computer screen, plus some behind the scenes & location shots.

I will have plenty to share once all edited, plus I did another behind the scenes video.

I will try not to leave it so long until my next update!

Birthday & Valentines Shoot

It has been a few weeks! I don’t know where the time is going. I am busy with work, have been suffering with migraines and also in the middle of more renovations, so everything is a bit hectic!

With the news we got yesterday regarding the roadmap to ending lockdown, things feel more positive and hopefully we can start to get back to normal. I have my first vaccination this week as well.

I am really excited to start being able to see people again, and get shoots booked in and work with fellow creatives! My studio is currently being redecorated, so will be all finished once restrictions start to lift. But, because it’s currently being decorated, that means I just haven’t had the time or space to shoot, as everything from the two rooms we are working on, is spread out around my house until we finish.

I did however shoot some bits before my studio was out of action. It was my birthday at the end of January, so I shot a little look for that. I also did some looks for valentines day which I really enjoyed doing!

I have had Mad Love’s Harley Quinn on my to do list for a while, and I even made her cork gun for the shoot as well, the cowl & mask I bought online. I also wanted to do a cupid look, and had purchased some cushion filling to create clouds, which I have seen people use before, but I was really amazed at how well it worked! I then photoshopped in some clouds behind me to make it really look like I was up in the skyI. I really loved how these turned out, and are probably some of my favourite self shot images so far. I also did a bodysuit look utilising the natural light that my studio gets at golden hour. I only managed to get a few as I had just finished shooting cupid, so didn’t have a lot of time before the light went.

I am hoping to be able to start shooting again next month, but I don’t want to rush getting my studio/office just how I want it, so I am going to take my time with it!

I hope everyone is keeping well, and hopefully all this soon will be a distant memory!

Spooky Season Update!

Well, October flew by in the blink of an eye! I am incredibly late with posting as I was so busy throughout the whole month that I just never got round to updating!

October is my favourite time of year, not only is it my wedding anniversary, and the month everything starts to turn gorgeous shades of orange, but it is also officially spooky season!

We started off the month by being away for our anniversary, staying in a lovely family run cabin on a lake and next to a woods! It was perfect for us and pooch for a few days. Whilst there, I also shot some of my Halloween looks that I do for October! I usually aim to do around 10, as I just love this time of year. Our cabin was perfect for some of the ideas I had! I also went pumpkin picking with a friend, and did a Trail of Terror at Colchester Zoo with my family, as well as getting some last bits of decorating finished! Even though it’s been a busy one, and it’s generally my favourite time of year anyway, October has been the best month I have had this year!

Midway through the month, I also finally got to work with one of my favourite people again, Marie Devilreux! We had been trying to plan a shoot together again for ages, but our schedules just didn’t seem to allow it, and then the first lockdown happened!

She wanted to shoot her costumes she uses for acts, and we were lucky enough to use two of the venues she performs in, Proud at Embankment & Stringfellows in Covent Garden. We got so many gorgeous images that I just can’t wait to start working on this month. I let a camera film some behind the scenes too, so will make sure to put a little video together for that! I am already looking forward to us planning our next one!

I had great fun shooting this year’s Halloween looks. Some I have had in the works for a while, in particular my main cosplay which I started last year, and I actually did some on location which was a really nice change as well! Both outside ones I enlisted the help of my husband, as the weather was terrible whilst we were away, so windy & raining. So it wasn’t the conditions to shoot tethered, and my tripod kept shaking from the wind. So with everything set up, I gave him the camera to just take the photos.

Find the gallery below of a selection of the 10 looks I did! It has been great self shooting more this year, as it’s kept me busy when I haven’t been able to work with other people due to what is going on. The one I worked the hardest on was my Ash from Evil Dead. It is one of my favourite film franchises and I have wanted to cosplay him for ages! I made the chainsaw hand from scratch and would love to do more with it!

Here is a little Ash video I did whilst we were away. I have used some old clips from a Evil Dead behind the scenes video I did years ago, but added in new ones my husband filmed. Music is by him as well.

I had shoots arranged for this month, but due to Lockdown 2.0, I am now just going to catch up on my editing from my last shoot, and also just enjoy a bit of downtime! I have some Christmas content in the works to shoot, although I am absolutely not ready for the C word right now!

Keep a look out for the new post on Marie, I am so excited to share our new images!

Stay safe!

Teagan Paige - Second Shoot Edited!

Teagan Paige - Second Shoot Edited!

Towards the end of August I got to work with Teagan Paige for a second time before she was leaving the UK! I was so glad we got to shoot again, as we always have fun on our shoots, and end up producing some great stuff. We first worked together 8 years ago, and the images are still some of my favourites

I had been sent a couple of harness & corset sets from Basque & Glory for our shoot, and we also wanted to do something with flowers in the bathtub.

When it came to shooting the corset sets, we stayed dark with the Black set, with hints of pink from coloured gels. With the pink set we stayed bright & colourful. I did originally make a note of my light set up, but with everything going on recently with renovating, It all slipped my mind and I no longer have it saved!

For the flower set, we shot in my bathtub. I had originally wanted to shoot in a paddling pool in my garden, but the weather had typically really turned that weekend (after weeks of a heatwave) so the bath was the best option. Instead of having the white of the tub as the background, I laid down a black muslin backdrop so we got darker results. I had aiming at the white ceiling, a light, and another aiming across the bath, with a pastel turquoise gel for a slight hint of colour.

I really loved how the flower shots turned out. I have wanted to do something with water for ages, but timing, weather, amongst other things have stopped it from happening.

I hope I get to catch her again when she returns to the UK!

Here is the little behind the scenes video from this shoot!I My stand unfortunatly slipped without me realising, so excuse the slight cut off the top at the start! I have since repurchased a Canon M10, not just for having a smaller camera to carry around for trips, but also to aim to do more and better behind the scenes videos like I used to. Charlykat Shoot - Edited

Charlykat Shoot - Edited

I am a bit behind with updating, as I have a lot going on with work and renovating, but finally found sometime to post a quick update!

Last month I shot with Charlotte, who I have worked with numerous times now, she lives not far from me and I love our collaborations! This was our first shoot this year, after having to cancel out shoot back in April due to lockdown.

I love our shoots as we don’t always plan ahead, and like to come up with what we’re doing on the day, and always manage to pull off some great work.

My favourite set is probably the darker set with the black bodysuit! We jazzed this outfit up with a chain belt, and some black voile fabric and had the fan going to give some dynamic to the shots! It really worked well.

I have a couple more updates of new images to make once I am caught up with myself. I have my second shoot with Teagan Paige before she left the UK, and I also have a new self-shoot to share! I will then be making a start on my favourite time of year, which is Halloween. I am currently without a studio whilst we are renovating, but hopefully it be for much longer!

Stay well,

Teagan Paige - Edited!

I have been busy the last few weekends with shoots, and it’s felt great. Today I had my last shoot until about October due to a renovation project that needs my full time and attention if I wish to have it completed. But this also gives me time to catch up on my editing work.

Today’s shoot was with Teagan Paige again, and it was her last as she is leaving the UK next week, so I was glad to fit her in again before she leaves!

Here is a little peek of what we shot today! I had Basque & Glory send me a couple of cute sets (which I will also be self shooting soon) and we also did some images in the bath with flowers.

My last shoot with Teagan Paige was great fun, and we both went into it blind as I had been let down by another model last minute, and she was on hand to help me out!

Considering we had no idea of what we were going to shoot, we managed to pull together 4 looks which I ended up loving.

My favourite from the set has got to be with the chainmail hood. I have used this a few times now for shoots, and every shoot has come out so different. I think these are probably my favourites. The colours, the styling, the poses, they just all work so well together and created some strong beauty images.

I still have my Witcher cosplay shoot to finish, and I am also waiting on Charlotte’s selections from our shoot last weekend. I definitely have a lot to keep me going for a bit. I will also have a behind the scenes video from this shoot as well!

Next weekend I have plans to self shoot, and have 4 looks I wish to do. I will be shooting the 2 Basque & Glory sets I shot this weekend, plus 2 cosplay inspired looks.

Here is the little behind the scenes video from our previous shoot! I would really like to get a proper camera to film behind the scenes again like I used too, but for now they are just filmed on my Google Pixel. Music is by Absent Minds.

Productive Weekend!

Productive Weekend!

This weekend has been a productive one for me, as I have been busy with shoots and catching up with some editing.

First shoot of the weekend was with a Twitch Streamer by the name of Alyska Plays, who contacted me about photographing a cosplay she had. It was one of the dresses worn by Yennefer in the Netfix Witcher series. I jumped on the chance, as I love both the series & video games.

She had never done a photoshoot before, and our original plan had to be put aside due to the weather changing drastically, but we made it work and she and I both ended up loving the results!

I have only edited a couple for now, but here they are. The headshot I just love!

Yesterday I had a shoot with a lovely model who I have been working with since last year. It was nice to see her again with everything that has been going on, as we were due to shoot in April! We decided to go the colourful route, but didn’t get to do everything we had intended due to the weather again! I was really hoping for some natural light shots as well, but it poured down all day!

Here is a sneak peek of what we got up to.

I am currently in the process of finishing off last week’s edit as well as the behind the scenes video!

I have plenty to keep me busy at the moment.

Finally back to shooting!

Finally back to shooting!

It seems summer is officially here, and boy is it a scorcher! I am glad that I had already shot the latex looks I did last month when it was cooler!

In my last post, I mentioned that I have a coupe of self shoots to still edit. I had fun with these, I love playing with different styling, wigs & lighting. First set, I wanted to shoot something a bit fashiony and bold. I have had this red bodysuit for a while, which I keep in my costume drawer specifically for shoots. I love how bright the red is, so wanted it to contrast with the backdrop, and felt my Blue was the perfect match! My fan was used for this set as well, I am just absolutely loving hair movement in photos currently.

The second set I wanted to do something a bit Cyperpunk/post-apocalyptic, with a futuristic twist. I felt my neck corset was fitting as well for the times at the moment, where we all have to wear a mask when shopping or using transport. I went a bit more creative with these and decided to photoshop in aspects of the backdrop to more fit the theme.

To plan these shoots though, I actually used some software I have only recently come across, and really like. It’s called Set a Light 3D. It’s fantastic for planning your set up, especially if you don’t have a lot of time to play on the day.

These were the results from my set up in the software. Obviously, with the Cyberpunk look I went with more saturation, but both turned out how I had envisioned in this program.

Below are the results.

Sunday was my first shoot with a model since lockdown. It was supposed to have happened last weekend, but I got let down last minute, and did again by the same person this weekend. Fortunately, someone I have worked with before saw my post looking for someone last minute.

We had a fab afternoon creating, and it felt so good to be back behind the camera again.

I hopefully have another 2 shoots this week, and potentially another couple at some point on a weekday, and then I am not able to shoot again until about the end of September/ beginning October due to house renovations.

Here is a sneaky peek of the looks we did Sunday taken on my phone.

I am so excited to edit these images. I have almost narrowed them down, but boy has it been hard! I think the chainmail hood shots are possibly my favourite. I have shot with this a few times now, but everyone has been styled so differently, it’s amazing what different accessories & lighting can do.

I should hopefully have a behind the scenes video of this to share once I get round to editing it, so keep a lookout for my next post!

Latex Goodness - Self Shoot

Latex Goodness - Self Shoot

I mentioned on my previous post I had some latex from Shhh Couture that was sent to me for model shoots, but I had decided to self shoot it during this time due to the current situation. I really love how these turned out, and I wanted to share my lighting set ups for both of these sets as well!

I loved this baby blue two piece that I knew I wanted to do something bright and colourful. The wig was a bargain off of ebay, and went great with this look. My favourite shot is actually the portrait shot to the left, which was a spur of the moment thing when I was coming to the end of the shoot.

As soon as I saw this dress, I knew I wanted to do something a bit more elegant. I had a halo that I made for shoot, but not yet used and thought this would go great with it.

This set I had the most issues with due to the back rim light with the snoot just kept misfiring, so it took a bit longer than I had wanted, and I was a bit fed up by the end, but I got there eventually.

I hope you liked those, and find the lighting diagrams useful.

I had another self shoot that I quickly did the other day, due to a hair change. I couldn’t resist doing a casual cosplay of a character with the same coloured hair! Keep a look out for those.

Stay safe,

JL x
